TraceSnap QA Privacy Policy

TraceSnap QA (“TraceSnap”, “we”, “our”) is a Chrome extension designed to help software testers and developers capture, organize and export evidence from user-initiated browser testing sessions.

TraceSnap is designed with a local-first approach. QA evidence is processed and stored locally in the user's browser and is not transmitted to TraceSnap or to a TraceSnap-controlled server.

1. Data TraceSnap processes

During an active testing session, TraceSnap may process the URL and title of the page being tested, capture time, screenshots requested by the user, and labeled page interactions used to generate reproduction steps.

TraceSnap is designed not to intentionally record values typed into form fields.

2. Console diagnostics

TraceSnap Pro can locally capture console logs, informational messages, warnings, JavaScript errors and unhandled promise rejections generated by the tested page.

3. Network diagnostics

Network Capture is an optional TraceSnap Pro feature. It is disabled by default and enabled only after the user activates it and grants Chrome's additional permission.

When enabled, TraceSnap may record request URL, HTTP method, resource type, status code, timing, cache information, redirects and network failures.

TraceSnap does not intentionally capture request bodies, response bodies, cookies, authorization headers or passwords. It also attempts to redact common sensitive URL parameters before storage.

4. TraceSnap Pro license information

TraceSnap Pro is sold through Gumroad. When a user activates Pro, TraceSnap sends the TraceSnap product identifier and the user's Gumroad license key to Gumroad's license verification service solely to verify the license.

No QA screenshots, browsing evidence, console diagnostics, automatic steps or network diagnostics are sent to Gumroad.

5. Local storage

TraceSnap uses Chrome's local extension storage for privacy consent, extension preferences, active session state, captured QA evidence and TraceSnap Pro license state. This storage is not used to track users across websites for advertising or profiling.

6. Data sharing and transfers

TraceSnap does not sell user data and does not use QA evidence for advertising, profiling, creditworthiness, lending decisions or unrelated purposes. QA evidence is not transferred to Glasskai or third parties.

7. Analytics and advertising

TraceSnap does not currently include third-party advertising, behavioral analytics, cross-site tracking or developer-controlled telemetry of QA sessions.

8. Data retention

QA evidence remains local for as long as required for the active session or until the user removes it. Exported evidence is saved to a location controlled by the user.

9. Security

Screenshots, URLs, console messages and network metadata can contain sensitive information originating from tested websites. Users should review evidence before sharing exported files.

10. Changes

This policy may be updated if TraceSnap's functionality, data handling practices or legal requirements change. Updated versions will be published on this page with a revised date.
